At La Casa de Don Pedro’s Hispanic Women’s Resource Center (HWRC), every class is an opportunity to build confidence, develop new skills, and create pathways to success. For Iris (name changed to protect her privacy), that opportunity has been life-changing.

When Iris enrolled in the program, her goal was simple: learn English. Today, she says the support she has received has given her far more than just language skills.

“I am very grateful to the Hispanic Women’s Resource Center at La Casa de Don Pedro because they have helped me so much in learning English,” she shared.

She credits her instructor, Ms. Rebecca Cruz, for creating an engaging learning environment that made mastering a new language possible. In addition to improving her English, Iris participated in workshops on financial literacy and resumé development and valuable skills that have prepared her to pursue employment with greater confidence.

Iris is also grateful for the encouragement she received from Coraly Melendez and Ana, whose unwavering support helped her continue attending classes and remain committed to her educational journey.

Today, Iris feels more confident communicating in English and is better prepared to achieve her personal and professional goals. Her story reflects the mission of La Casa de Don Pedro: empowering individuals with the knowledge, resources, and support they need to build brighter futures for themselves and their families.

Every success story begins with a single step and for Iris, that step was walking through the doors of the Hispanic Women’s Resource Center.
