NEWARK, NJ – La Casa de Don Pedro, a local non-profit organization dedicated to fostering self-sufficiency, empowerment and neighborhood revitalization has received a $100,000 grant from Bank of America (BofA).

The grant will help provide community members and program participants with the skills and training needed to obtain sustainable, higher paying jobs while also improving economic mobility in Newark and surrounding areas. As the largest Latinx-led agency in the state, La Casa de Don Pedro has been providing social services, economic relief, and personal development to Newark and Essex County residents for over 51 years.

“These funds will allow us to provide critical job training to dozens of our community members which in turn will make them much stronger candidates for better paying jobs. Those jobs typically include health insurance and other benefits which will drastically improve their quality of life, so we are extremely grateful to Bank of America for their commitment to our mission,” said Peter T. Rosario, President & CEO, La Casa de Don Pedro.

The grant is part of Bank of America’s philanthropic giving efforts in local communities. Awardees were selected for their commitment to addressing basic needs and workforce development for individuals and families.

“For more than five decades, La Casa de Don Pedro has opened doors for Newark residents to programs that support and address employment barriers that previously were inaccessible, particularly for individuals in our most vulnerable communities,” said Alberto Garofalo, President, Bank of America New Jersey. “Bank of America applauds La Casa for being trailblazers in this initiative and we are confident this program will expand access to Newark’s diverse community members for years to come.”
